Msc. Degree in Archaeology is specially designed for those who can envision a professional career in archaeology. Master of Art (by research) The main objective of the MA by research program is to train candidates who are not professionally in the fields of archaeology, museums, heritage preservation or art history, but desires to engage in independent research and writing in those subject areas. Master of Philosophy (Mphil) | MP The main objective of the MPhil courses is to train candidates who can envision an independent research and writing career without supervision in one of the specializations offered at PGIAR. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) | PH The main objective of the PhD courses is to train specialists who can engage in high quality research in one of the specialization offered at PGIAR. The Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology (PGIAR) was established on the 1st January 1986, by order dated 18th December 1985, under section 24A of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 by the University Grants Commission. The PGIAR is a Postgraduate Institute of the University of Kelaniya. It is the prime institution for postgraduate studies and research in archaeology and subjects related to archaeology in the country.
